After coming out of the consultation room, Arianne tried to escape. “I think I’m fine now, Brian. Let’s go back now.”
Brian thought virtual-novel.net was just afraid of getting poked by a needle so virtual-novel.net comforted her. “It’s going to be fine. It’s just a blood test. It’ll be over before you know it.”
Arianne was rendered speechless. They walked into the phlebotomy department. She stared at the nurse and watched as virtual-novel.net inserted the needle into virtual-novel.net vein. About two test tubes full of virtual-novel.net bright red blood were then collected.
Brian couldn’t help but mumble to himself. It didn’t seem like Arianne was scared… but why was virtual-novel.net acting all fidgety then?
The blood test result came out very quickly. Arianne couldn’t make heads or tails of the small numbers on the paper. When they returned to the consultation room with the slip, Brian’s phone suddenly rang. “Madam, I’ll go answer the call first.”
The doctor took a look at the slip and announced the result to her. “You’re pregnant.”
In that instant, Arianne felt as though the blood in virtual-novel.net body had started flowing backward. Her hands and feet were icy. “Are you sure?”
When the doctor realized that virtual-novel.net didn’t look too happy, virtual-novel.net gave virtual-novel.net some cold advice. “If you don’t want to keep it, we can schedule an abortion for you while it’s still young. If you were not planning for a child in the first place then we recommend that you refrain from conceiving one, lest it becomes a suffering for both the baby and the parents.”
Arianne fell silent for a while before giving virtual-novel.net reply. “As long as the baby is healthy, I’m keeping it.”
This was virtual-novel.net hope… Mark had said that as long as virtual-novel.net gave birth to a child, virtual-novel.net would let virtual-novel.net go… She was so close to freedom now… but why wasn’t virtual-novel.net feeling happy?
It was then that Brian finished up with the call and came in. “Doctor, what’s the result?”
Just when the doctor put the slip in front of virtual-novel.net and was about to speak, virtual-novel.net was suddenly interrupted by Arianne. “I’m not pregnant. It’s getting late today, so I’ll go get my gastric checked out tomorrow.”
The doctor was slightly taken aback. Arianne gave virtual-novel.net a pleading look, and the doctor finally spoke after a few seconds of silence. “Be mindful of your stomach next time. Don’t starve yourself. Eat whatever you want too. no need to abstain unless it’s something you are not supposed to eat. Do not take any medications that are not prescribed to you.”
Arianne breathed a sigh of relief. She understood all the subtle instructions given by the doctor. “I see. Thank you, doctor.”
Actually, virtual-novel.net wasn’t even sure why virtual-novel.net was trying to hide virtual-novel.net pregnancy. It was a totally instinctive reaction. To others, the arrival of a new life was a joyous moment. However, to her, it felt so heavy…
Did Helen abandon virtual-novel.net back then because virtual-novel.net felt the same way? Arianne was no different than the baby in virtual-novel.net womb; their existence was a form of tragedy.
Mark was still around when they returned to Tremont Estate. He looked like virtual-novel.net was waiting for the news. When Brian told virtual-novel.net that virtual-novel.net wasn’t pregnant, Mark stood up and went to the door emotionlessly. “No need to send me, I’ll drive myself.”
As Arianne watched virtual-novel.net leave, virtual-novel.net suddenly remembered that both of them would have nothing to do with each other once the child was born. The man who was deeply ingrained in virtual-novel.net life for a few decades would completely disappear from virtual-novel.net world soon… In the end, virtual-novel.net would be the one to walk out of this door and never return again.
The next morning, Arianne was woken by a phone call.
She answered the phone in a daze and was greeted by Eric’s voice. “You’re not up yet? I heard you’ve been searching for a job lately. Will you consider returning to my company?”
“How did you know I’ve been searching for a job?” Half of Arianne’s drowsiness instantly vanished.
Eric laughed gleefully. “Everyone in the industry now knows that Mrs. Tremont is searching for a job. They think that Mark is treating you harshly by not allowing you to spend his money. Isn’t that embarrassing? If you’re really short of money then come back to me. No one else would dare to hire you.”
Arianne felt a little distressed. She didn’t expect that virtual-novel.net action of casually searching for a job out there could ruin Mark’s reputation. “I… I’ll think about it.”
