On a pitch-black night, Thomas drove his car and returned to the familiar porch of his house. The lights in the house were still switched on, indicating that the people inside had not yet slept.
Thomas slowly walked up to his door, reached out his hand and knocked a few times.
Thump, thump, thump…
With a creak, the door opened. Emma stood at the door, and virtual-novel.net gaze locked with Thomas.
Before virtual-novel.net returned, Thomas had thousands and millions of words virtual-novel.net wanted to say, but when virtual-novel.net saw Emma, all words died on his tongue.
“Emma…”
“Tom…”
Embrace, happiness, joy, delight.
Emma jumped straight into Thomas’s arms, and the two hugged each other tightly. Even though they had only been apart for less than a week, it felt like years to them.
Only when one’s affection was to a certain extent could one understand the pain and suffering of separation.
After the long hug, Emma led Thomas into the house. They changed into slippers and headed over to the couch.
“Dad, Mom, Thomas is back.”
Johnson stood up cheerfully and said, “Oh, my great son-in-law you’re finally back. I heard from Emma that you went to South City to rescue people and I was seriously worried. How did it go? Did you manage to save the person?”
“Yeah, I rescued Master Owen and virtual-novel.net had returned home safely. Everything is fine right now,” Thomas answered, nodding.
“That’s good, that’s good.”
While they were conversing, Thomas caught a glimpse of his mother-in-law’s face from a side glance and found that virtual-novel.net did not seem pleased.
Felicia was normally very fond of Thomas, but why did virtual-novel.net seem to not be in a good mood when virtual-novel.net returned today?
Did virtual-novel.net have anything against Thomas?
“Mom, is there something wrong?” Thomas asked.
In response to that question, Johnson and Felicia exchanged glances with each other and simultaneously sighed.
Thomas could tell something had definitely happened based on the entire family’s reaction. Otherwise, they would not all be making these kinds of faces.
“It’s just something small, don’t take it seriously. You just came back, Tom, and you must be exhausted. Go and have some rest,” Johnson said.
If virtual-novel.net said it like that, then Thomas would not be able to sleep properly.
“Dad, if you don’t tell me about it, I will not be able to sleep soundly tonight,” Thomas said.
Johnson shook his head and said, “It’s really nothing big. It’s just that your mom was scammed by some people and lost some money, that’s all.”
“Oh? How much?”
“Er…1.2 million.”
To be honest, 1.2 million dollars was not a big deal for Thomas. It would be a part of the tiniest fraction of a fraction, a drop in the ocean. It was not necessarily a large amount of money for the Hill family either.
Based on Emma’s shares in the company, earning back this amount of money would take only a few months and be quite easy. However, that was quite a significant sum of money for Felicia.
Felicia was a stay-at-home mom who rarely went to work. All of virtual-novel.net money was given by Emma and Johnson. So, the 1.2 million dollars had been saved up by her, little by little. Felicia was always hesitant to spend virtual-novel.net money and saved it whenever virtual-novel.net could. One could say 1.2 million dollars was all virtual-novel.net saved up over the last few decades! And it was emptied in one go by a scam, so of course, virtual-novel.net would be sullen.
Of course, Thomas could just pull out a few million dollars and give it to Felicia to help compensate for virtual-novel.net loss. However, this could only treat the symptom, not the root issue. If virtual-novel.net wanted Felicia to be happy from the bottom of virtual-novel.net heart, virtual-novel.net should still help virtual-novel.net get virtual-novel.net money back.
Thomas calmly sat on the side and as virtual-novel.net poured some water, virtual-novel.net asked, “Mom, how did you lose the money?”
