Sincere Technology was one of the top ten companies in the field of smart home technology.
The director, Peter Stefano, had voted for Thomas in the recent election, allowing Thomas to take over the presidential seat without any issues. He thought that everything would be as smooth as butter from then onwards, but now, he was regretting his decision.
Peter paced back and forth in his office while having a severe headache. That was because his partner in crime, Benson, had been murdered. It was not that he was sympathizing with Benson’s death, nor was he planning to avenge him. He was merely sad about losing a comrade.
Since Benson was now dead, would he be the next one to die?
The thought of that made him feel restless.
“If I knew this was going to happen back then, I would rather follow Lord Vedastus… Although they will continue draining my resources, at the very least, I will still be alive…”
“Benson was killed in his own house. And the murderer is still roaming free out there. Damn it! Is it too much to ask to be able to live in peace for the rest of my life? This is not going to work. I think I should just run.”
While he was still deep in his thoughts, shouts were heard right outside his office.
“Who are you? You cannot enter this place as you wish. Get out!” A woman’s scream followed right after.
Before Peter came back to his senses, the door to his office was kicked open by a few men in suits. The first of them who entered his office was holding a dart in his hand.
He had no idea who they were, but Peter was sure that that was the dart that killed Benson!
Peter hid behind his table after picking up a fountain pen on the table. He then pointed it at the men in suits.
“What do you guys want from me? Get out before I call the cops!”
He understood that they were here for his life, just like how they took Benson’s.
But the one who led them in only chuckled and said, “The cops? Sure, go ahead and call the cops. I will make sure you are dead before the cops even reach this place.”
Peter was scared shitless and was on the verge of pissing in his pants.
He said softly, “I know I was in the wrong. I should not have betrayed Lord Vedastus and voted for Thomas. Please give me one more chance. I am willing to give up everything as long as you let me live.”
The man in suit nodded, “I like those who know their place. Do not worry. We are not mindless demons, in fact, we are actually not interested in taking anyone’s life. Benson was only dead because he asked for it.”
While he was still talking, he placed a document on the table.
Peter took a look at the documents.
What he placed was a new contract that was far more blood-sucking than Lord Vedastus’s contract!
Signing that contract was basically gifting his entire company to Lord Vedastus and lowering himself to nothing more than a mere employee. It would be far more horrendous than how it already was.
Were they not crossing the line here?
Peter said with a shaky voice, “This… It is not that I am unwilling to sign this contract, but the president of the Business Alliance is Thomas. Without him agreeing, it is useless even if all of us sign it.”
The man in suit chuckled. “Worry not about that. I naturally have my way to force him to resign. When the time comes, all you need to do is remember to whom you should be loyal and to vote for Lord Vedastus.”
Peter was dumbfounded.
It seemed that there was no other way around it.
The man in suit said, “Keep the contract. When Lord Vedastus once reigns as the president again, he will be looking for you first to have the contract signed.”
With that, he turned around and left.
Peter sat on his chair as he sighed repeatedly, “I have worked hard all my life, but in the end, it is all for naught. Sighs…”
The man in suit was none other than Dragon Claw.
After he left Sincere Technology, he told Heron, “Everything is proceeding in accordance to the plan. All that is left is for Thomas to resign!”
