After Lord Vedastus left, Heron felt worried as he asked, “Master, I know what you’re planning to do. You want to expose the secret, which will definitely humiliate Abner and Thomas. But aren’t you afraid of involving Declan as well?”
After all, Abner and Mr. Cole had merely obeyed his orders. Declan had been the one to actually plan and create the two-headed snakes.
If the secret was exposed, would Declan’s reputation be ruined as well?
Heron did not like Declan, but he was still Luck’s spokesperson in Celandine City, and he had become the head of a family with a thousand-year history. If they wanted to harm Declan, they had to ask Luck for permission first.
It made Heron anxious and worried.
However, Dragon Claw chuckled and said, “There’s nothing to worry about! Please rest assured. This will only involve Thomas and Abner. Declan won’t be involved.”
“Why?” Heron did not understand.
“It’s simple. Would Lord Vedastus simply drag Declan into this mess? He’ll just say that the two-headed snakes were created by Abner and Mr. Cole, Thomas’ teacher.”
Lord Vedastus would not expose Declan, but what about other people?
Heron said, “What if Thomas or Abner drag Declan along with them?”
“Don’t worry, they won’t,” Dragon Claw firmly said, “Heron, don’t just think about the problem from our perspective. You should always think about the problem from our rival’s perspective too.”
“From our rival’s perspective?”
Dragon Claw refilled his wine glass before he said, “Thomas and Abner are good people, while you and I are bad people. Do you know the difference between good and bad people?”
Heron shook his head.
Dragon Claw took a sip of wine before he told Heron about the difference.
Good people had their own principles whenever they did something, while bad people would do anything to achieve their purpose.
“Thomas and Abner would risk everything for their friends because they’ve retained their kindness. So, they would rather sacrifice themselves to protect their friends. You don’t have to worry. Thomas and his gang won’t expose Declan. After all, they were allies who previously worked together.”
Heron nodded and thought it made some sense.
He said, “Those people are foolish. They’ve got no guts to do anything just because they see so-called beauty in human nature. Man, those idiots are really boring.”
“Wrong! You’re very wrong,” Dragon Claw said. “Good people have principles in everything they do. While that gives them some obstacles and makes them fear, as well as worry, all the time, their actions allow their companions to feel safe. They’ll trust each other, and everyone will move in the same direction! They unite and help each other.”
“Unlike us…” Dragon Claw sighed and said, “Bad guys like us have no limit. We’re capable of betraying our friends, family, and colleagues. It’s a cause for serious problems. We can’t trust anyone, the group will eventually fall apart, and so many cliques are formed internally.”
He drank some wine. “Heron, I’m not going to lie. Everyone looks bad to me. I feel like everyone wants to stab me in the back, and I can’t even sleep well at night!”
“In terms of that, I sometimes feel really envious of Thomas. At least he can show his friends his back without having to worry about being betrayed and abandoned.”
As Dragon Claw continued to drink the wine, his eyes became teary for no reason as if he had recalled some bitter memories.
Right then, Heron patted his chest and said, “Don’t worry, Master. No matter what others think, I’ll always be your shield! If others try to hurt you, they’ll have to walk over my dead body!”
Heron’s words made Dragon Claw feel warm.
How long had it been since he last heard something that touched him so much?
“Okay, let’s not sound so clingy. Run along and watch Lord Vedastus and Thomas closely. Look out for the latest development.”
“Lord Vedastus always acts before much thought. He’s too arrogant. I’m really worried that he’ll mess things up.”
