When Lord Vedastus thought about it, the happiest time in his life was actually when he started to earn money and give his family a good life.
At that time, he could earn several hundred thousand dollars every month and up to a million annually. They were already very wealthy compared with other normal families. Back then, Lord Vedastus and his family lived their lives without worry, and they loved each other.
However, like a snake trying to swallow an elephant, he was not content.
Lord Vedastus, who was blinded by power and money, slowly descended into the abyss. His family stopped mattering to him anymore.
He could give anything up as long as he had money and power. It was not until a few decades later that he suddenly realized it all amounted to nothing. Only relationships were the most genuine thing in the world.
Right then, Lord Vedastus cried like a baby. He fell asleep and dreamed about his daughter.
If God gave him a chance to live his life again, he would never choose to give his family up for money and power.
Unfortunately, there was no if.
The night was silent, and Lord Vedastus felt his body sway as he was in a daze.
He opened his eyes and looked around.
‘Wow, oh, lord!’
He was suddenly in a place that resembled an ancient court, and there were ghosts in strange outfits on either side. There was a table in front of him, and a man with a black face was sitting at the table.
“What’s… going on? Am I not sleeping in the hotel? Why am I here?”
At that moment, the man with the black face slammed his hand on the table and said, “Lord Vedastus, aren’t you aware that your life has ended?”
His life had ended?
He was dead?
Lord Vedastus was stunned as he stared at the man with the black face. Only then did it dawn on him that this might be the legendary Lucifer.
“I… I’m dead?”
The man with the black face resumed. “Lord Vedastus, you’ve so many bad things in your life that it’s hard to count. After you die, you’ll go to hell and be burned by the fire as punishment! Do you admit to your sins?”
Lord Vedastus was completely stunned.
When one committed countless crimes, he would have to go to hell and receive punishment. Even children knew that.
Yet, did such things not just happen in fairy tales?
Lord Vedastus was shocked and scared. He did not know what to say at that moment.
The man with the black face added, “Demons, take Lord Vedastus out and break his body apart!”
The demons walked forward and restrained both of Lord Vedastus’ arms before they attempted to leave.
“Hold on!” Lord Vedastus shouted.
The man with the black face raised his hand, gesturing to them to stop.
Then, he asked, “Lord Vedastus, what else do you want to say?”
Lord Vedastus looked around and asked, “I just want to ask you a question. Is my daughter still alive?”
Fiora had previously left without bidding him goodbye, and it was unclear whether she was still alive. Hence, the question had been on Lord Vedastus’ mind. He used to be too embarrassed to let others know.
But, he was dead now. Would he still care about his dignity?
He did not care about power and wealth anymore. He just wanted to know whether his daughter was still alive or not.
“Your daughter? Do you mean Fiora Vedastus?”
Lord Vedastus kept nodding. “Yes, that’s her! How’s my daughter?”
The man with the black face remained silent for a while before he picked up his record book and flipped through its pages. In the end, he hummed and said to Lord Vedastus, “Your daughter, Fiora, will still live for another 71 years. She’s living a good life.”
“Is that so?” Lord Vedastus’ tears fell. “It’s great that she’s alive.”
