“All we want is nothing but-safety. As long as we’re safe, we definitely won’t make it difficult for everyone. If we’re safe, no one will die… Now then, I have a small request to make to ensure everyone’s safety…”
“I demand that Thomas drink Ancestral Water immediately! This person is a real hassle for His Majesty, and we must keep him under our control for our own protection. Please forgive us for the inconvenience… We’ll only give everyone half a day to consider this. The emperor will begin killing people if Thomas does not step forward and drink Ancestral Water by this afternoon.”
“Okay. I’ve said everything I wanted to say. Goodbye.”
The TV screen went dark, and so did Eric’s face.
He kicked the trash can over and said fiercely, “What is this? You’re the only person in the world who can create an antidote for Ancestral Water’s poison, Thomas! Once you drink Ancestral Water, you’ll be controlled by them!”
“Won’t you have to obey Luck’s every command by then? He could even ask you to kill yourself. If you’re dead, no one else will be able to create the antidote to Ancestral Water. He would have control over the lives of two million people. He can also continue to gather new hostages and do anything he wants at that point…”
“You absolutely can’t die, Thomas. You can’t drink Ancestral Water!”
Having said that, the problem was… Was it possible?
Luck demanded that Thomas drink Ancestral Water in exchange for two million lives. There would be people sacrificed every second if he refused to drink it.
Could Thomas allow something like this to happen?
“Since we already know where Luck is, why don’t we just charge straight in?” Eric exclaimed angrily.
“No,” Thomas responded. “If we charge straight in, everyone will die. Even if we get our hands on Luck, two million others would die alongside us. We cannot allow something like this to happen.”
But if they did not do that, what else should they do?
For a moment, both of them fell silent.
If Thomas chose to sacrifice himself, they could temporarily solve the crisis, but what would happen after that?
There was no one else who could create Ancestral Water’s antidote. But if Thomas did not sacrifice himself, two million people would die soon. That was an even more unacceptable outcome.
He was in a dilemma.
“It’d be great ifI could create an antidote for Ancestral Water quickly,” Thomas added.
It was easy to say, but could it actually be done?
Thomas immediately walked out of the room and said, “I’m going to start the research right away. I have to crack the code in half a day’s time!”
He was putting his life on the line for this research.
If he succeeded, the two million people would be saved, and Ancestral Water would completely lose its effects. But if he failed, Thomas’ life could not be saved.
“Phew…” Thomas sighed deeply.
He was under tremendous pressure.
