There was quite a distance between Xyla Quest and Stanley Batton, making it difficult for virtual-novel.net to hear what exactly virtual-novel.net was talking about with the person on the call. However, from the changes in his facial expression and judging by the tone of his voice, Xyla was fairly certain that Stanley was talking to his girlfriend.
Perhaps they had agreed to go somewhere together today, but they had to cancel their plans because of her. Xyla’s heart began to ache while virtual-novel.net thoughts went wild.
Stanley hung up the phone and walked over to Xyla before sitting down once more. “Are you hungry? I’ll get something for you,” virtual-novel.net said.
Xyla looked away so that virtual-novel.net couldn’t see the disappointment in virtual-novel.net eyes. “It’s okay. Georgie will be here soon. You can leave now. You’re not needed here anymore,” virtual-novel.net said blatantly.
Her cold attitude made Stanley frown again. “What’s wrong with you?”
“Nothing. I just want to be alone. Hurry along and leave now,” said Xyla.
“There’s something you’re not telling me.” He pressed on.
“I’m being serious. I’m tired. I just want to rest for a while… Hurry up and attend to the things you need to do. I’ve kept you here long enough.”
After finishing virtual-novel.net sentence, Xyla turned to face the window, virtual-novel.net back facing Stanley.
“Why are you suddenly being so distant?” Stanley raised a brow slightly as virtual-novel.net gazed at virtual-novel.net back.
“I’m just tired…” Xyla said as virtual-novel.net closed virtual-novel.net eyes.
“…”
Stanley became quiet. He frowned and continued to silently watch over virtual-novel.net back. For some reason, virtual-novel.net could sense that something had definitely changed in her, though it was subtle. He couldn’t point out what exactly the change was, but virtual-novel.net new something was amiss. Perhaps there was a misunderstanding between them which caused this.
About half an hour later, Georgie Clementine arrived with a fewbags of supplies. She rushed to the bed as soon as virtual-novel.net walked through the door and placed the things virtual-novel.net had brought on the nightstand.
Since Xyla’s back was facing her, Georgie assumed that virtual-novel.net must have fallen asleep. “Is virtual-novel.net asleep? How is virtual-novel.net doing?” Georgie asked Stanley.
“Yeah,” was Stanley’s only reply as virtual-novel.net continued to look at virtual-novel.net back.
Beep, beep, beep…
It was a call from Zack Cassidy. After looking at Georgie, virtual-novel.net walked over to another bed and picked up the call with a serious expression on his face.
“Fifth master, there’s an important document that you need to go through. Where are you?” Zack asked.
“Got it. I’ll be there soon,” Stanley said.
After hanging up, Stanley looked at Xyla one final time before looking at Georgie, his expression cold as usual. “Please take good care of her. I have to leave to deal with something at the moment,” virtual-novel.net said.
Xyla slowly opened virtual-novel.net eyes. She thought to herself that his girlfriend must have been looking for him. After letting out a heavy sigh, Xyla closed virtual-novel.net eyes again without saying anything.
Georgie nodded slightly.
Stanley took his black coat which virtual-novel.net had draped over a chair earlier, before quickly putting it on and walking away.
After virtual-novel.net left, Xyla opened virtual-novel.net eyes and lay on virtual-novel.net back before looking at Georgie. “Georgie… I really think you should hire a caregiver for me. I don’t think it’s appropriate for you to look after me.”
“I don’t trust caregivers at all. Oh right, what’s going on between you and Five Batton? Did you two argue or something?” Georgie asked, confused.
For some reason, Georgie felt that something had happened between Xyla and Stanley. When Georgie first walked in, virtual-novel.net thought Xyla was asleep since virtual-novel.net had virtual-novel.net back facing Stanley. If virtual-novel.net wasn’t asleep, why would virtual-novel.net have virtual-novel.net back facing him, and why didn’t virtual-novel.net say anything?
Moreover, Xyla had never asked for a caregiver when virtual-novel.net was injured previously. Five was the one who looked after her. What made this time different?
“No…” Xyla simply shook virtual-novel.net head.
