“I understand.” Madelyn nodded.
“Alright now, you’re free to go. I haven’t slept well for the past few days, so I’m going to take a nap in my room.” Yaroslav stood up.
He did not know if virtual-novel.net could fall asleep, but apart from taking a nap, there was nothing else virtual-novel.net could do. He returned to his room and lay on the bed, but could not fall asleep.
It had been many years since virtual-novel.net last felt such anxiety. He closed his eyes, and a million thoughts flashed through his mind.
Suddenly, as if reminded of something, virtual-novel.net jumped off of his bed.
A few days ago, Thomas came and told virtual-novel.net about James’ strength. He told virtual-novel.net that virtual-novel.net would certainly die at James’ hands. However, virtual-novel.net also said in the end that virtual-novel.net could survive if virtual-novel.net thought of a way.
“Could it be…” Yaroslav thought of a possibility.
Thomas must have been hinting at something. He was reminding virtual-novel.net to cooperate with James to survive.
Yaroslav would not have thought so if it was anyone else telling virtual-novel.net this. However, this was Thomas Caden, James’ grandfather. Even though Thomas had cooperated with the organization before and had some sort of authority, virtual-novel.net was still James’ grandfather.
“Is Thomas trying to remind me that there’s an alternative path?” He murmured.
Then, virtual-novel.net immediately called Madelyn.
Madelyn was currently trying to locate James’ whereabouts.
She wanted to find an opportunity to approach virtual-novel.net and signal their wish to cooperate with him. Before virtual-novel.net could begin virtual-novel.net investigation, virtual-novel.net returned immediately upon receiving Yaroslav’s call.
Ina room…
Yaroslav was warming his hands on a bonfire. Even so, his body was shivering.
Madelyn walked in.
Upon seeing this, virtual-novel.net asked, “Mr. Gabriel, are you suffering from a relapse of Frost Venom?”
Yaroslav shook his head and said, “It’s a chronic disease of mine, so I’m already used to it… Since my cultivation method is flawed, it causes my body to shiver. By the way, I was reminded of what Thomas told me.”
“Thomas?” Madelyn froze.
Yaroslav told virtual-novel.net honestly, “Thomas is the Leader’s VIP. He has helped the Leader out before. It was virtual-novel.net who told me that James planned to kill me and his current strength. Not only that, virtual-novel.net even said something else.”
Yaroslav told Madelyn the whole truth.
“Madelyn, is Thomas trying to tell me that our only way out is by cooperating with James? Is Thomas’ objective to annihilate the Leader through James’ hand?”
Madelyn was deep in thought.
After a while, virtual-novel.net said, “Based on what you said, it’s certainly likely… But how is Thomas still alive? Isn’t virtual-novel.net long dead?”
“You don’t understand. Thomas has been cooperating with the organization the whole time. He’s a shrewd and cunning man. No one knows what virtual-novel.net wants.” Upon mentioning Thomas, Yaroslav’s expression turned grim.
All this while, virtual-novel.net had been meeting virtual-novel.net alone. Thomas was good at concealing his identity. For decades, no one knew of his existence. Even Yaroslav could not figure virtual-novel.net out. However, virtual-novel.net was sure of one thing, Thomas was strong. So strong in fact that even the Leader might not stand a chance against him.
Upon hearing this, Madelyn said, “Since Thomas has given you the hint, we should simply do as instructed.”
“But I don’t want to…” Yaroslav said with a frustrated look on his face.
“I don’t want to be a pawn. I want to hold my fate in my own hands.”
Madelyn hurriedly said, “Surviving should be our priority. I will find a way to make contact with James. Then, I will arrange for a secret meeting with him.”
“Got it… But be careful not to let your guard down. The organization’s informants are everywhere. Do not give yourself away.”
“Understood!”
