Lisa smiled and said, “Brother Charlie, don’t forget, Claudia’s mom is from Aurous Hill. You could say that Aurous Hill is Claudia’s grandma’s house.”
Charlie laughed and asked, “Are there any relatives in Aurous Hill?”
Claudia shook her head and replied, “No, my grandparents are gone, and my uncle is abroad. We don’t have much contact, so basically there are no relatives around. The ones we do have are distant and I haven’t met most of them.”
Charlie chuckled and said, “It’s okay, you have Mrs. Lewis, Lisa, and me. We’re all your relatives.”
Claudia was touched and nodded eagerly.
Charlie then introduced Mrs. Lewis to Elaine, “Mom, this is Mrs. Lewis from the orphanage. I’m sure you’ve heard me talk about her.”
Elaine looked at Mrs. Lewis with surprise and said, “I’ve heard of her! I used to hear Charlie talk about you all the time!”
As she spoke, Elaine couldn’t help but think back to the time when Old Mrs. Wilson had her birthday.
Charlie had suddenly asked Elaine to lend one million to Mrs. Lewis for medical treatment at the birthday banquet. At the time, Elaine had been furious with Charlie, but now, he had become a successful and well-respected son-in-law.
Elaine couldn’t help but feel a twinge of guilt for her past actions.
“Unfortunately,” Elaine continued, “When the Wilson family’s old lady was alive, Charlie asked her to lend him money, but she not only refused to lend him a penny, she also publicly scolded him at the birthday banquet. It was really excessive.”
Mrs. Lewis thanked Elaine, saying, “You are really thoughtful. Thank you.”
Elaine waved her hand dismissively and replied, “Don’t mention it. My good son-in-law has been talking about you, so we naturally want to do our part too.”
Elaine then asked with concern, “By the way, are you all better now?”
Mrs. Lewis nodded and said, “Yes, I had an operation at first, and I’ve already healed.”
“That’s good!” Elaine replied with a relieved expression, “You must take care of your health in the future. My son-in-law knows a very famous doctor. His name is Dr. Simmons. You should let him give you a good check-up later.”
Mrs. Lewis smiled and nodded in thanks, “Thank you. You have a kind heart.”
Charlie couldn’t help but feel a mix of emotions upon hearing Elaine’s words.
On one hand, he was saddened by his mother-in-law’s skill at lying, which was truly unmatched.
On the other hand, he couldn’t help but marvel at the huge turnaround in their lives. Since the birthday party of Old Mrs. Wilson, Charlie had been reduced to trash, but his life had since soared to great heights.
At that moment, the captain of the flight walked into the cabin from the cockpit and said politely, “Distinguished guests, I am the captain of this flight. I am glad to serve you. We have about eleven hours of flight time. If you are all ready, we can take off.”
Elaine subconsciously reached for her cell phone, wanting to ask the captain to turn the plane around and go back.
But when she remembered that there were still many people around, she had to give up on that idea. However, she still wanted to show off a little, so she said to Claire, “Claire, call your father and tell him to hurry up and pack up. Have him start the Rolls Royce and pick us up at the airport.”
Claire said helplessly, “Mom, didn’t you hear what the captain just said? We have to fly for more than 10 hours.”
“Oh,” Elaine suddenly realized.
She waved her hand and said, “It doesn’t matter. Just tell him to pick us up at the airport an hour earlier.”
Claire, who has always disliked high-profile displays, said, “Mom, why don’t you let Charlie book a big car instead? That way, not only will the three of us be able to sit, but Mrs. Lewis, Lisa, and Claudia can also come along.”
Elaine bristled and said, “I’ll talk to him!”
The plane lifted off from New York, transporting six passengers on a journey to China.
After an 11-hour flight, it touched down at Aurous Hill Airport. Charlie, Claire, Mrs. Lewis, and Lisa all experienced a wave of nostalgia upon returning to the beloved Aurous Hill.
While Claudia appeared relaxed and engaged in conversation with Lisa, Charlie detected hints of nervousness in her demeanor.
Charlie understood Claudia’s feelings as a teenager, who had already endured so much suffering and was now leaving her country to start a new life in a city more than 10,000 kilometers away. It was natural for her to feel nervous, apprehensive, and even confused and anxious.
Despite this, Charlie didn’t try to persuade her, as he knew that Claudia was a mature and capable young woman who would be able to adapt to her new surroundings quickly. He had faith in her strength and resilience.
At this time in Aurous Hill, it was already nine O’clock in the evening.
Charlie had previously arranged for Isaac Cameron to pick up Mrs. Lewis and the girls at the villa that had been prepared for their arrival. However, since Claire and Elaine were also traveling with them, Isaac was unable to come himself and had instead arranged for a luxury modified Toyota Vellfire to take them to their destination.
The large size of the vehicle was necessary to accommodate the six passengers and all of their luggage.
At the airport entrance, Mrs. Lewis and the girls met the driver who had been waiting for them.
The driver and his assistant diligently helped them load several suitcases into the car, and Mrs. Lewis asked Elaine, “Mrs. Wilson, this car is quite big, why don’t we all go together?”
Elaine waved her hand and smiled, “Sister Lewis, we won’t go with you guys. We’ll wait for my husband to pick us up.”
She then grumbled, “That idiot, I told him to come earlier. How come he hasn’t shown up yet? If he dares to keep me waiting, I’ll tear him up!”
