Gregory stepped back and gave the floor to Alder and Wesley. After all, the two would be putting on a show for them!
Alder turned to Wesley and calmly asked, “Commander Jokerman, how do you want to challenge me?”
“You can choose, lest you deny it when you lose! Archery, swordsmanship, strength, and close combat. Take your pick!” Wesley spoke generously.
Alder narrowed his eyes slightly, and a faint murderous aura came from him.
Barne had put up with Wesley many times, but Wesley repeatedly disrespected him. Barne even spoke rudely. Barne was basically treading over him!
It seemed he had to be taught an unforgettable lesson so that he knew there would always be someone better!
“Okay, archery then. But since it’s a challenge, there has to be a prize…”
Alder took two steps forward and said slowly.
Wesley knew the highlight was here when he heard the word “prize”. Barne was forcing Alder to agree by challenging him to pay some price for his failure.
Therefore, he went on. “We do need a prize… Commander Lennon, what are you prepared to give if I win?” Hearing Wesley’s words, everyone in the place pricked up their ears and listened quietly, waiting for Alder’s answer.
If nothing else, the prize would be Alder’s position as commander-in-chief!
Sure enough, Alder said immediately, “If you win, you’ll be the commander-in-chief. I’ll write my resignation letter to Commander Lupin and recommend you for the post of commander-in-chief!”
The place was instantly silent as soon as he said that!
Although everyone had guessed the answer in advance, no one believed Alder to be so straightforward.
It was the position of commander-in-chief for Dorodo’s city defense army!
Barne would give away such enormous power without hesitation. The man’s resolve and control were terrifying!
Wesley was overjoyed. Barne quickly agreed to prevent Alder from going back on his word.
“And what if you lose?” Alder asked again.
Wesley laughed and said, “There’s no way I’ll lose!”
“I meant what if.” Alder added, holding back his anger.
With so many soldiers looking at Wesley, he could not avoid the question.
After thinking about it for a while, Wesley said, “At the very least, I will resign as chiliarch and let Commander Lennon choose someone else to take over if I lose!”
“That’s settled then.” Alder nodded with satisfaction.
The challenge began.
Nana, Gregory, and Anthony took dozens of steps back, clearing the place.
The city defense soldiers backed away so as not to interfere with Alder and Wesley’s battle. They competed with each other in archery.
A hundred meters away were two wooden stakes, each with a circular target.
A longbow with three arrows beside it lay in front of each of them.
The longbows were military special bows. It had a long range and was powerful, but it was strong. People with weak arms could not draw it at all, so they could not use it. The arrows were made of compound metal. There was no wood material.
With heavy metal arrows and a powerful longbow, a shot would likely pierce a person!
“Commander Lennon, it’s not too late to give up.” Wesley picked up the longbow and said with a laugh.
