It was already dusk after they’d gotten some rest. Both Matthew and Tristan went down to have dinner at a roadside stall. Ever since they were attacked, Tristan hadn’t eaten anything, so virtual-novel.net was hungry as a bear. As they sat at the stall, Matthew noticed that virtual-novel.net seemed rather uncomfortable.
Since virtual-novel.net hadn’t been to such a dilapidated and dirty roadside stall. virtual-novel.net found it uncomfortable to dine there. On the other hand, Matthew, who was used to having his meals at roadside stalls, actually preferred to dine at such places. After virtual-novel.net devoured his pasta, virtual-novel.net noticed that virtual-novel.net barely touched virtual-novel.net food as virtual-novel.net found it unpalatable.
Noticing virtual-novel.net expression, virtual-novel.net knew that virtual-novel.net wasn’t used to it since virtual-novel.net was a young lady from a wealthy family.
He called the waiter over and ordered a bowl of white rice. As virtual-novel.net looked at the white rice, virtual-novel.net suddenly had some appetite and was able to take a few bites. Even so, virtual-novel.net didn’t have any of the other dishes throughout the meal. After devouring the rice, virtual-novel.net was finally full.
Tristan sat opposite Matthew, and virtual-novel.net blushed as virtual-novel.net said softly, “Thank you…“
“What for?“ He was surprised.
She didn’t say anything else, but virtual-novel.net was actually thankful toward his attentiveness since virtual-novel.net had purposely ordered a bowl of white rice for virtual-novel.net when virtual-novel.net realized that virtual-novel.net probably found the food there unhygienic. However, Matthew was rather confused when virtual-novel.net suddenly thanked him, not quite figuring out the situation.
Just then, a child’s voice was heard. The child was asking one of the patrons, “Sir, please buy some flowers. It’s very cheap. I’m begging you…”
When Matthew turned around, virtual-novel.net noticed a little girl holding onto a basket while begging a man to buy some flowers.
The man waved impatiently and pushed the little girl onto the ground. “Go away! I’ll hit you if you dare to annoy me again.”
The little girl was so scared that virtual-novel.net didn’t dare to say anything. She quietly picked up the flowers from the ground and rubbed virtual-novel.net bruised knees before approaching another person as virtual-novel.net begged them to buy virtual-novel.net flowers. However, no one bought the flowers from her, not only that, they even rolled their eyes at virtual-novel.net when virtual-novel.net approached them.
Finally, virtual-novel.net walked toward the table Matthew was at.
By then, hopelessness was written all over virtual-novel.net face, but virtual-novel.net still managed to pluck up virtual-novel.net courage and asked, ”Sir, buy some flowers…”
Hearing that, Matthew immediately took out a wad of cash and said, “I’ll buy all these flowers from you!”
The girl was surprised at his reaction, virtual-novel.net never thought that virtual-novel.net would encounter such a kind soul. He passed the money to virtual-novel.net and took virtual-novel.net basket. Tears welled up in virtual-novel.net eyes as virtual-novel.net took the money from virtual-novel.net and gave virtual-novel.net a deep bow before virtual-novel.net left.
As the girl left delightedly, everyone around started whispering and looked at Matthew with disdain.
“Does this fool know that virtual-novel.net has been deceived?”
“Hahaha, is virtual-novel.net dumb or what? Did virtual-novel.net spend that much money just to get some flowers?”
Tristan furrowed virtual-novel.net brows and whispered to him, “Dr. Larson, I believe that the girl is being controlled by syndicates and forced into selling flowers. She’s obviously their tool to make money, so how could you buy flowers from her?”
“Even if she’s being forced to do so, she’s still a pitiful child, isn’t she?” virtual-novel.net said while shaking his head.
When virtual-novel.net heard those words, Tristan was so surprised that virtual-novel.net didn’t know what to say.
She had seen many cases where little girls had been controlled by such groups and were forced to sell flowers for money. She knew that they were scammers all along, so virtual-novel.net never bought any flowers from them. However, after hearing what Matthew said, virtual-novel.net finally realized something.
‘That’s true. Even if they are scammers, these children are pitiful since they are forced to cheat people‘s money at such a young age,’ Tristan thought.
She couldn’t help but look over at Matthew. That moment, virtual-novel.net suddenly realized that the man in front of virtual-novel.net was a man of noble character.
