“It’s okay now, hush. I beat them up and chased them away. You’re safe now,” Zayn cooed gently, rubbing Faye’s cheeks. He tore the tape off the woman’s lips.
A cry, followed by a heartbreaking bawl sprung out of her mouth as soon as the gag was removed, and the distressed woman threw herself onto Zayn. She was whimpering like a little girl. Zayn had her in his arms as he patted her back gently, hushing her with a litany of soothing assurance. This was the first time he had ever seen Faye cry like this.
“I was so terrified… God, I was so terrified…” she sobbed. As soon as her ropes were undone, she wrapped her arms around Zayn and squeezed him as tightly as she could. Zayn felt like he could not breathe.
Faye was scared that he would disappear, so she held onto him for dear life, like a drowning woman clinging onto the last floating barrel out at the sea. She had never been so scared before, not even during that one time with Ethan, she had never been so fearful.
Honestly, Faye had decided back then, if she was truly defiled by William, she would take her own life. It brought upon another source of fear in her. She dreaded the possibility of being raped, and she had to face her own primordial fear of death. She would miss the world. There would be guilt towards her parents and Zayn, as she would have never actually made it up to him. Lastly, she would grieve over the lost spark between her and the chairman.
However, just when she needed help the most, the chairman appeared and saved her.
An unprecedented seismic shock rocked the deepest recesses of her heart. It reverberated through her bones, and in its quake, she made the biggest decision of her life, one that she would never turn back on, no matter how hard the world tried to convince her otherwise.
Faye Carter decided to pursue a romance with the chairman of Violet Vision. She would become his woman, and if that meant the world would tum against her, so be it!
She had always been a very conservative woman. She followed rules. She obeyed what was expected of her. She yielded to the morals of society, so even when she had no feelings for Zayn, she had never once been unfaithful. However, everything would change starting now. These deluges of life-changing events had altered her perspectives and shattered her conventional mindset. They changed her!
She wanted to be with the chairman! She wanted to live with her true love! Even if the world would condemn her and jeer at her, she would risk it all for him!
So what if the chairman was Zayn’s friend? So what if it would make her a villainess in the eyes of society? What if she was about to commit a crime of infidelity?
So what?!
Zayn was completely unaware of the unprecedented changes that had taken over Faye. He had been mollifying her gently, soothing her with his gruff voice, “It’s alright, all is well. You’re safe. Safe and sound.”
Faye lifted her head and considered the chairman. When she looked into his eyes-so deep and so mesmerizing, she felt like she was gazing at the stars.
“Thank you, sir. I can’t.. I can’t thank you enough.”
Zayn chuckled. “It’s nothing. Just something I could do.”
Faye understood what was left unspoken. He was doing it for Zayn’s sake again. It was something that would have greatly saddened her in the past. However, in the light of her new decision, she was no longer crushed.
Seeing her lowered head made Zayn think she was in a dispritied state. A thought hit him, and he became frenetic. “No… Has William Brown deflowered you already, Fifi?!”
Zayn could not stop himself from going there. If it had, indeed, already happened, the guilt would haunt him for the rest of his life!
Just looking at the state Faye was in made him assume the worst. She was completely bound, her clothes were filthy, and it seemed possible that William had forced himself onto her. If he did… If he did! Zayn would pulverize his corpse into dust!
Hearing the chairman call her Fifi made Faye’s body go limp. It was the first time the chairman had ever called her that, and when she really thought about it, did that not mean the man had already reserved some sort of special affection towards her?
“No, don’t worry about it. I’m untouched. William didn’t get his chance,” Faye explained quickly, worried that the chairman had misunderstood the situation.
Zayn released an audible sigh of relief. This meant that he managed to save her just in the nick of time.
She heard him sigh. Her heart swelled like it was filled with warm honey. It meant that the chairman did care about her, and that he did not do it simply out of Zayn’s request!
It was the most euphoric revelation. It completely banished all of the moroseness and sullenness that had plagued her days ago. She knew it! Her instincts could not have possibly lied to her! What she felt when she had interacted with him those past few times was spot on.
He had feelings for her! Or at least some form of affection. The only reason Zayn said what he had said was because he was lying.
Or maybe the chairman was the one who was lying. He had to be mendacious when Faye was still Zayn’s legal wife.
It was then when Faye said something that filled Zayn with apprehension, “Mr. Chairman, may I see your real face?”
