Shocked, Waine displayed the same skepticism. Was there something wrong with his daughter?
Why was she letting Zayn touch her in such an intimate manner?
During the four years that they had been married, the pair of them never had any intimate exchanges.
Faye was actually feeling awful. She was even a little bewildered. Why was she being like that?
It was all Zayn’s fault. He was nothing but a bother!
“Yeah, I’m out of my mind. Is there a problem with me being out of my mind?” Faye vented on Ruby.
“Hey, don’t speak to me like that,” Ruby glared and chided, her anger flaring up.
Faye blinked and turned to Zayn. “Darling, someone’s bullying me!”
She was acting coy. Her coquetry astounded her parents, but what Zayn did next baffled them even more.
Zayn’s face instantly contorted to convey his rage as he scolded Ruby with a glare, “Why are you speaking like that to my wife? What kind of mother are you? Aren’t you happy that Fifi and I are being so affectionate?”
Ruby’s eyes widened as she shook with fury.
Did she hear that right?
Was a piece of trash like Zayn talking back to her? What was happening to the world?
Slamming the table, she retorted, “What are you talking about, you piece of trash? Are you being defiant now?!”
Zayn slammed the table as well. His strength crushed the table as he glowered at Ruby. “I’ve had enough of you. You’ve called me trash for four years! You built a wall between us with your name-calling. Try calling me trash again. I won’t let it slip the next time!”
It was Zayn’s first time talking back to Ruby since he married into their family. He had even broken their coffee table, which was worth a couple hundred dollars. His ferocity intimidated Ruby. Her features were blanched on the spot as she trembled and staggered back onto the couch with a plop.
Waine was startled. He was about to berate Zayn, but when he met his murderous glare, a chill ran down his spine. His mind had gone blank. As he was not bold enough to stand his ground, be lowered his head timidly.
Faye was stunned too. Zayn’s attitude had taken a frightening chance of pace.
The man snorted in disdain. He walked Faye to their room with his arm still around her waist. Once they had entered the room, he firmly closed the door behind them.
The living room had been plunged into pin-drop silence. Ruby and Waine stared at each other, their lingering fear and shock mirrored in each other’s faces. They could not help but doubt if Faye had really come home with Zayn Larson, or someone else entirely. It was alarming!
What happened tonight made them feel like they had been possessed or they had been hallucinating.
Why else would they have been seeing things?
The aloof Faye had allowed herself to be taken advantage of. She allowed Zayn to keep his arm around her. Meanwhile, Zayn, who was known to be so submissive, had actually yelled at his parents-in-law…
After Zayn had closed the door, he pinned Faye against the wall and tipped her chin with one hand, staring at her flippantly. Faye avoided his gaze. She felt scared and started to panic. No matter how many tantrums she threw or how emotional she got, she was a conventional goody-two-shoes at her core.
If Zayn had maintained his act as a weakling, a single word from her would have made him quiver. It created a sense of superiority and gave her a lead when she faced him. Now that the shoe was on the other foot, it was too much for Faye.
The power that Zayn held over her was greater than anything Nathan and William could ever muster, she was too late to realize that.
She was beginning to miss the old, obedient Zayn, not the devil in front of her. Nonetheless, she gritted her teeth and clenched her fists, staring at Zayn while trying to mask her timidness.
“Go take a shower.” Zayn let go of her and laid on the bed. His hands were crossed behind his head as the glib words rolled off his tongue. “Make sure you’re clean. I’m not interested in tasting sweat.”
Faye called him a rogue in her head, but was honestly relieved. To be honest, no matter how stubborn she acted, she was not physically ready. Picking up her clothes quietly, she went into the bathroom.
