She felt disheartened once again. Moreover, she was so thoroughly disheartened that she could not pull herself together anymore.
So, where did Zayn go then?
In reality, Zayn had not gone very far. He took a seat at a nearby park. He had been gazing at the surface of a lake absentmindedly for quite some time. When Faye did not come looking for him, he felt rather relieved. It meant that his departure meant something, he had done something good at the very least and put Faye out of her misery.
Speaking of which, it was a rather intriguing thing, really. He had married into the Carter family so that he could lay low to avoid being killed by the Larsons. Now that the tables had been turned, he no longer needed to lay dormant. He did not need to keep his identity as the Carters’ deadbeat son-in-law anymore.
From a different perspective, it was not only an exoneration for Faye but for him as well.
Now that all the pieces had been put back together, all was well. Was it not?
Nevertheless, he felt the proudest and almost relieved for never having touched Faye. He was glad that he upheld her purity so that in the future, she could find true happiness in peace.
At the thought of that, he realized that had done quite well… Nevertheless, he could not help but continue to think about something.
What if Faye found out that he was not pretending to be the chairman of Violet Vision?
What if she realized that he had been telling the truth?
What would she think about that?
Would she regret it?
Would she feel guilty?
Would she be both? Neither?
She was a tough nut to crack.
Zayn mulled it over without budging at all. It was as if he had turned into a statue. In fact, there were even people who regarded him as a statue. A few young girls came over and snapped a couple of photos with him because they found him almost eerily lifelike.
Despite that, Zayn remained seated without budging, merely watching everything in silence.
At last, it began to rain. The raindrops that came into contact with his body sent a coldness that brought him back to reality. He pointed out rather casually, “It’s raining.”
When he spoke, the young girls were startled. They shrieked in shock because the statue on the stone bench had actually spoken. Was there anything else more terrifying.
Zayn paid no attention to them as he stood up and brushed the peanut shells off him. He began walking ahead autonomously.
The young girls soon realized that the statue they had taken photos with was a real man…
Zayn found somewhere to take shelter from the rain. It did not rain for a long as the downpour stopped after half an hour had passed.
The phone in his pocket suddenly vibrated. He took it out and took a glance, noticing that it was a message from his telecommunications operator. Other than that, there were no other text messages.
Faye did not call him, or send a text message.
He shook his head in self-mockery. Why would he come up with such an idea?
He must have been daydreaming. Faye was probably over the moon now because he had finally signed the divorce papers. She could finally pursue her long-awaited happiness.
Now that he had separated himself from the Carters, it was high time he began a life that actually belonged to him. He tried to shake off his despondency. He began walking away when the rain stopped. He decided that he would check into a hotel room for the time being and get a good rest. He would think about the rest tomorrow.
However, it was also at that moment that he suddenly received a text message from his phone. He took it out and read it. It was a text message from Alexandra. Two ominous words, ‘Save me!’.
