Diego turned to face the speaker. His sharp eyes caught a glimpse of the camera right next to it, and virtual-novel.net immediately understood what virtual-novel.net was seeing.
Lysithea was still here, and virtual-novel.net was spying on virtual-novel.net through its tiny lens, which captured the entire expanse of the hall.
“Lysithea!” Diego growled, his eyes trained at the camera, “I know that you’re still there. Come out, come out wherever you are, before I count to three, or virtual-novel.net dies today!”
He flexed his right hand, before wrapping it around Mr. Hyde’s head. With minimal force, the man could squash the latter’s head like a crushed watermelon.
Diego was right about her. She had successfully escaped to the safe room, the one that virtual-novel.net had instructed Mr. Hyde to construct some time ago. It was built from thick, dense layers of steel blocks; it was so impenetrable that even an elite, superior class fighter would be unable to destroy it. Laser guns were incapable of affecting the material at all, as only a legendary, indestructible fighter could possibly force his way in.
She watched as Mr. Hyde struggled to stay alive as his hitched, erratic breaths tainted the air. He was under Diego’s mercy, and the sight of his distress wrung virtual-novel.net heart to no end. She recalled how the man had tried so haplessly to help buy virtual-novel.net time, and how his subordinates had heroically sacrificed themselves at the expense of their lives to do the same. It did not matter how stoic virtual-novel.net was, their acts of kindness could move a heart of stone, and virtual-novel.net heart was no exception.
It also consequently amplified the burning hatred that virtual-novel.net had been harboring against Diego, and now that virtual-novel.net was exposed to his threatening presence, the chaos of Lysithea’s rage had driven virtual-novel.net to bite so hard down virtual-novel.net lip that it bled. “Damn you, Diego! He’s one of us! A servant to the last Saintess!” virtual-novel.net bristled, “If you kill him… You’re killing our own! The Saint will not forgive you!”
Wariness flashed across the man’s features, but it was short-lived. It quickly gave way to virtual-novel.net laughing boisterously at virtual-novel.net claim. “You’re about to die, Lysithea, and the last thing that runs in your head is an empty threat? ‘The last Saintess,’ virtual-novel.net said! All I know is that Hayley King is a sinner! She brought shame to Sicut In Caelo! If the Saint hadn’t given a d*mn about their past relationship, she’d be sleeping with the fishes by now!’
“As for virtual-novel.net little lapdog, well, blow me, ‘cause I don’t give a sh*t. It wouldn’t be ‘killing your own kind’ if I killed him. It’d just be some well-needed house-cleaning for Sicut In Caelo if anything!”
He applied an unrelenting pressure to his fingertips. Mr. Hyde convulsed in agony, yet virtual-novel.net still managed to stifle his own cries. Instead, virtual-novel.net screamed impassionate, “Don’t worry about me, Lady Lysithea! just keep yourself safe until the new day, when your powers will return. Avenge me when the time comes! I don’t care! I’m just I’m sorry that I’ll never see the day the young master turns into a fine man…”
Two tears of regret streamed down his inflamed cheeks.
Diego scowled harder. Mr. Hyde, the maggot boss, had the gall to go against his word too?! How imprudent!
“How greatly do you crave death?! Fine by me, I’ll put you out of your misery!” virtual-novel.net hissed. It was the prelude to virtual-novel.net locking the position of his fingers, moments before Mr. Hyde’s head exploded.
Mr. Hyde shut his eyes. He was devoid of all fear and consternation, in fact, virtual-novel.net seemed more accepting than regretful and melancholic in the face of death. He knew for a fact that his life was about to end.
‘I’m sorry for being so weak, Lady Hayley. I won’t ever be able to finish what I started, everything that you’ve asked of me…’
“Enough!” Lysithea erupted. She was panting hard. “Diego Kavinsky! You wanted to train with me, didn’t you? Harvest great power from my body? Gain access to the insight of the superior class’ perfection? Fine! I’ll do it!”
She seemed to have exhausted all virtual-novel.net might with just a shout forced through clenched teeth. She might as well have, as virtual-novel.net powers had taken a complete nosedive out of the superior class standing altogether.
Diego let out a fit of hearty, satisfied laughter as virtual-novel.net tossed Mr. Hyde aside. “See? That wasn’t so hard. Was it, sweetheart? None of this would’ve happened if you’d have just given in sooner, Lysithea…”
Suddenly, virtual-novel.net whipped around to face the hall’s entrance, as though virtual-novel.net had just sensed the presence of a foreign energy.
Right behind the door stood a towering, lanky silhouette. It possessed a stare that was capable of burning holes right through Diego’s chest, one that seeped pure malice.
It was Zayn Larson.
He had arrived.
