When Life Takes a Turn

When Life Takes a Turn – Chapter 1052

Marissa immediately furrowed her brows and said to the senior bodyguard next to her, “Horton, is the location that we’re traveling to tomorrow dangerous?”

Horton let out a sneer in contempt. He saluted Marissa and said, “Our honorable Miss Marrisa, don’t you worry. You won’t be in danger regardless of where you go as long as our team is with you. We can ensure your safety 100%.”

Marissa nodded. She immediately relaxed after hearing Horton’s reassurance. “If that’s the case, we shall follow the planned itinerary tomorrow then.”

Zayn said, “Miss Marissa, it will be best for you to change your itinerary. If you insist on having your own way by traveling to the scenic location, the assassins will certainly launch into action there. They aren’t common people. Instead, they’re two highly-skilled master fighters who are very experienced in killing…”

He had yet to finish his sentence before he was interrupted by Horton standing next to him. Horton said in an impolite tone, “I have enough of putting up with you already, you cowardly Rheasian. Shut up and stop ruining Miss Marissa’s mood!”

The rest of the few foreign bodyguards looked at Zayn in contempt as well. They assumed that Zayn was not only useless but also a coward. To think that Rheasia had actually sent out a special agent like Zayn to protect Marissa! It seemed that Rheasia had run out of talented people.

Even Hank and Grant wondered if Zayn had gone too far. Marissa had always been safe over the past few days, and there was no sign of assassins either. Moreover, not many tourists would visit the scenic location that they were heading to tomorrow. Generally, it should be enough for the current bodyguards available to deal with a group of assassins.

Zayn said in a deep voice, “I’m not joking. Two master fighter assassins have been tracking us for the past few days, and they’re very good at concealing their murderous intent. All of you are not powerful enough, and that is why you haven’t noticed them. However, they can’t hide from me. I can feel their intense murderous intent, and they’re already prepared to assassinate Miss Marissa immediately at the location tomorrow…”

The senior bodyguard, Horton, interrupted Zayn once again, “That’s enough, Rheasian! So, you’re saying that your abilities are superior to ours? That we haven’t noticed the assassins’ presence, yet a Rheasian like you has managed to do so? That’s simply absurd!”

The group of Eurosians was very stubborn. Zayn knitted his brows even tighter. Had it not been for the fact that the organization assigned him this mission, he could not have been bothered to help this bunch of people.

He said to Marissa in all apparent seriousness right away, “Miss Marissa, will you please trust my judgment? The assassins will certainly make an attempt tomorrow. Going to a deserted, empty location is equal to placing yourself in a dangerous position, and your life will be in danger.”

Zayn would not have minded if the two assassins were just Tier-2 master fighters. However, he could sense indistinctly that there were more than just these two Tier-2 master fighters who had their eyes on Marissa. His instinct picked up more powerful killers, who were at least third-tier master fighters, lurking in the darkness!

If that really was the case, he would be taking a certain risk protecting Marissa.

However, Marissa refused to believe him or acknowledge him. She sneered, “Rheasian special agent, you may leave if you’re scared. I won’t report this to your superior. Regardless, your superior wasn’t counting on you to protect me when he assigned you for the job.”

She spoke Esperanto fluently, and her voice sounded pleasant and attractive. However, she had a spurious smile on her face which was an obvious hint of her mocking Zayn for being a coward who feared death.

She had been biased about Rheasians from the start. She assumed that Rheasia was just a weak, tiny country and that the Rheasians were the symbol of frailty that could never measure up to their strong, powerful Eurosians.

Noticing her scornful tone, Zayn was frankly rather furious in his heart. Had it not been for Liam who emphasized the importance of this mission repeatedly and begged him to take on the mission sincerely, he would not have come. Even if Eurosia was a wealthy country, he would not have been interested at all.

The rest of the bodyguards and assistants were laughing cruelly after hearing her remark Hank and Grant lowered their heads in shame and disgrace. They had never been as humiliated before as they were now.

Zayn looked at Marissa deeply and said, “Miss Marissa, I’ve already reminded you. Since you don’t believe me, if there really are assassins who try to make an attempt on your life tomorrow, don’t blame me for not protecting you well.”

Marissa grunted coldly once. She darted a cold glance at Zayn then turned around and left. She could be heard saying, “I was never planning on counting on Rheasia’s special agents to have the capability to protect me all along.”

The remark was truly disrespectful to them. Hank and Grant clenched their jaws so hard that their teeth almost shattered.

Zayn burst out laughing. He had already done everything he could in his duty. Since Marissa refused to take his advice regardless, he could not be bothered to persuade her anymore. By the time the assassins appeared tomorrow, Marissa would certainly come to realize how foolish she was today when she was on the verge of death.

Another night passed. It was already close to a week since Zayn acted as Marissa’s bodyguard. It was fortunate that he could get on the phone with Faye every night during the week, which eased his longing for her.

Zayn still chatted with Faye on this particular night. They chatted for more than an hour until Faye was tired. Only then he hung up the call.

What he did not know was that Faye was not that sleepy on the other end of the call after hanging up the phone. She lay in bed looking at her photos with Zayn and also the video recordings that they had taken in the past. She looked through them for a long, long time before she finally heaved a sigh, placed down her phone, and fell into a drowsy slumber.
