When Life Takes a Turn

When Life Takes a Turn – Chapter 1258

The senior nun did not believe the abbess’s claim right away. She frowned slightly, but did not offer any rebuttal. Pressing her palms together, she lowered her head and whispered, “Alright.”

A faint smile shadowed the abbess’s lips. “You might not believe it, but you’re looking at a perfect class elite fighter. He’s stronger than he looks. He could reshape terrain with a single punch,” she said.

“It is only out of the kindness of his heart did he refrain from killing you all. He didn’t need to explain himself. He could have just uprooted the entire temple from its foundation with a finger.”

The nuns were startled. They turned to Zayn, eyes wide and mouth slightly agape, though they believed every word the abbess uttered. The abbess would never lie to them.

Her words were all they needed to see Zayn in a brand-new light, one that was devoid of hostility. Instead, they looked at him with renewed respect.

A perfect class fighter was akin to a superhuman at the apex of human evolution, if Zayn were, as the abbess claimed, a perfect class fighter, then he was capable of causing mass destruction.

Though, in spite of that, he did not so much as snapped at the nuns for their wariness. He had been nothing but perfectly humble. What a gem!

Zayn was quite startled as well. He had not expected the abbess to be capable of gauging his power with a mere glance, especially since he had concealed his aura as much as he could. He could have even fooled a superior class tier-4 elite!

“Sir, if you don’t mind me asking; is Wang Que your wife?” The abbess asked. She was a kindly old woman who had a demeanor that was ethereal, almost out-of-this-world in a sense. She had a soul so pure and untainted by the material world that she almost transcended mortality.

Zayn had never seen someone so pure before. Her immaculate aura was so overwhelming that Zayn could not help but feel a deep sense of veneration.

Pressing his hands together, he bowed as he replied, “Abbess, I came to Miao Xuan Temple to bring my wife home. I apologize for disturbing the temple’s peace. Please, forgive me.”

The abbess smiled, her eyes twinkling in appreciation. “The world out there is enchanting, isn’t it? The intriguing charm of pleasure and fulfillment; the mire of morality, of woeful and joyous dreams, and an unending cycle of sentiments and attachments. In spite of your prestige and standing, you remain true to yourself.”

“You are free of any grandiose delusions and pitfalls that have become the downfall of many men. Rheasia is truly blessed to have a solitaire like you.”

Receiving such high praise from the abbess had even put a man like Zayn on the spot.

He had to laugh dryly to ease his bashfulness. “T-That’s quite the compliment, Abbess. I’m just an ordinary mortal, nothing special.”

The abbess smiled. She abandoned the topic altogether and turned to Faye, who was still kneeling on the floor. “Wang Que, your husband has come to see you. You should go back with him.”

Zayn was overjoyed.

However, what Faye had said next was so cold that she could have dumped a bucket of iced water over Zayn’s head to elicit the same response.

“I’ve already decided to embrace Buddhism, Abbess. All of my attachments to the material world have been severed. I want nothing more than to devote myself to the monastic path of enlightenment.”

Faye’s tone was devoid of any inkling of emotion. It left a searing hole in Zayn’s heart, so much so that his expression had completely froze. He could not take it anymore, he ran towards Faye, shouting, “Fifi!”

He gripped her shoulders. “Fifi, it’s me! Zayn! I’m alive! Your husband is back!”

He could finally look Faye in the face after being separated from her for such a long time. Now that their faces were inches away, he was able to inspect the minute changes in her features. She was skinnier, more beautiful, even.

Good thing he knew Faye like the back of his hand, because he would have suspected that she was an entirely different woman altogether.

Faye had changed. Her exterior was a whisper of her former glory, and that was all that was left of her. Everything else was different, she was more stoic, and significantly firmer. Her previous elegance and regal countenance had vanished. It had been replaced with an animosity so bitingly cold that Zayn could feel it in his bones.

She was an emotionless blank slate!
