All at once, virtual-novel.net stood over there in a daze, gnashing his teeth in anger. However, there was nothing else virtual-novel.net could do. It had already been such a long time since virtual-novel.net felt so powerless!
Romel was doing everything to rub virtual-novel.net the wrong way. His murderous intent for Romel grew even stronger than virtual-novel.net had ever felt for anybody else.
Noticing that Zayn had yet to reply after a long time, Romel’s expression grew solemn and cold. He grunted and said, “Why, you won’t bow down? It seems that you’re a fake country hero who has no regard for your countrymen.”
Upon saying that, virtual-novel.net continued to exert strength in his hand once again in an attempt to crush Byleth’s neck.
“Hold on!” Zayn shouted aloud as virtual-novel.net watched Byleth’s tortured expression of being choked to death.
Upon hearing that, Romel gave a cruel smile once again. “There’s a saying in Rheasia that those who let themselves be guided by the current course of events are real heroes. Zayn, you’re a wise man, so you should know what to do.”
Zayn was torn on the inside. He came up with more than 10,000 ideas in his mind and wanted badly to charge forward to kill Romel. The act of killing Romel would not be a difficult task for virtual-novel.net in view of his current capability.
However, virtual-novel.net knew that doing so would only be succumbing to the enemy’s desire. He would be disqualified from the competition if virtual-novel.net were to do so, and hence, Rheasia would not be in the running for the champion of the martial arts cup anymore.
However, it was at this exact moment when Byleth who had remained motionless all this time had actually exuded a powerful presence.
It was as if virtual-novel.net was exhaustng the last ounce of energy in his body, and virtual-novel.net seized the opportunity when Romel was caught off guard to break free.
He struggled free from Romel’s hold then glared at Zayn with rage in his eyes. He called out aloud, “Avenge me, Sergeant Larson! The country can go on without me but not without you!”
Zayn’s body shook violently upon witnessing the scene all of a sudden. He saw the determination in Byleth’s gaze and also the smile that appeared for just a moment on Byleth’s face.
He realized that something was off, so virtual-novel.net shouted aloud, “No, Sergeant Constantine!”
Alas, virtual-novel.net was too late. Byleth raised his arms abruptly and slapped his forehead heavily. A loud thud was heard before his body collapsed to the ground…
Romel attempted to stop Byleth, but virtual-novel.net was too late. He did not expect Byleth to actually be so determined that virtual-novel.net could still gather so much strength to break free despite already being covered in wounds.
Everyone fell into total silence in the meantime. They looked at Byleth who was already lying on the ring without budging at all. His last breath had long departed his body.
Nevertheless, there was still a final faint smile on Byleth’s face. There was a tinge of pride in his smile, indicating his pride for not disgracing Rheasia.
Zayn stood over there looking at Byleth’s body in a daze. It was impossible for virtual-novel.net to describe his emotions specifically. For a brief moment, virtual-novel.net felt as if virtual-novel.net had lost a lot but gained something.
He stood over there in a stupor. It felt as if time slowed down at this very moment, and virtual-novel.net could not feel anything for just a moment.
Zayn had always thought highly of Byleth and virtual-novel.net also admired virtual-novel.net very much.
From the day virtual-novel.net was acquainted with Byleth, virtual-novel.net had a rather good impression of virtual-novel.net as a patriotic man who devoted his entire life to his motherland. He contributed everything virtual-novel.net could to the Insurgent Trifecta and Rheasia.
A hero like Byleth was supposed to live a long life, but Byleth had chosen to sacrifice himself so that virtual-novel.net would not make things difficult for Zayn. He had hoped that Zayn would survive and be the beacon of light for Rheasia…
At this very moment, other than intense sorrow, Zayn also felt a sense of responsibility to his people that virtual-novel.net had never felt before. He felt a soaring spirit of sacrificing for his country without hesitation!
He shut his eyes and felt tears streaming down from the corners of his eyes.
He said to himself in his heart, “Rest in peace, Sergeant Constantine. I will avenge you and I will lead Rheasia to its glory.”
