At first, he was planning on sneaking away without telling Alice. However, she somehow managed to learn about his departure and was already waiting for him early in the morning.
When he woke up he opened the door, he found her there, her eyes red with tears. She sat on the door sill, her face marked with sadness, looking in very low spirits. Astor could tell at one glance that she had not slept.
“Alice?”
Alice was dozing off because she was too tired by the time Astor walked out. He was rather surprised to find her like this so he called out to her softly.
His voice immediately jolted her awake. She raised her head and saw him standing right in front of her, so she assumed an agitated expression. “Jamie, I heard that you’ll be leaving Yingland soon…On!”
She had stood up too quickly, and her legs had gone numb after sitting there since the early hours of the morning. Her legs immediately gave way when she got up so abruptly, and she was about to fall over.
Naturally, Astor would not let her fall, so he caught her by the waist just in time.
Alice’s eyes appeared to be mystified when she felt Astor’s arm wrap around her and pull her close.
She found it intoxicating!
She took a deep breath to take in the enchanting scent of his body.
It did not smell bad at all and gave her a sense of pleasure.
She took the chance to hug Astor back and placed her head against his chest. Keeping silent, she took in the coziness and joy of the moment.
Astor let out a forced chuckle. He was planning on shoving Alice away, yet he could not bring himself to do so after seeing her reaction. He could only heave a sigh to himself.
It seemed that he was destined to be surrounded by women.
Alice had hugged him tightly for more than ten minutes before she raised her head and said, “Larson, are you leaving Yingland?”
Astor did not want to hide the truth, so he nodded and replied, “Mm-hmm, I’m leaving.”
Upon hearing that, Alice’s face turned pale and her eyes were tainted with sorrow and unwillingness to part. Then, she lowered her head and said in an anxious, unwilling tone, “Will… Will you be coming back here?”
Astor felt tenderhearted upon seeing her like that. Alice had lived such a sad life. He said, “I will. I’ll come back when I have the chance.”
His answer relieved her of some of her anxiety. She finally cracked a smile and said, “Oh, that’s wonderful! I’ll be waiting for you here!”
She raised her head and focused her emotion-filled eyes on him.
As the crown princess, she would inherit the throne in the future. She held an extremely honorable status in the country, yet she was still a shy maiden in Astor’s presence.
Astor’s lips moved. He heaved a sigh and said, “Alice, you don’t need to do that. I’m already married.”
Alice did not seem sad. It was as if she had already predicted and accepted it from the start.
She stared straight into Astor’s eyes and said, “Larson, I don’t mind. I’ll be your woman for the rest of my life! I’ll give myself to you at any moment as you please!”
Upon saying that, her face reddened a little but she did not look away. She continued staring at Astor in a brave and sincere manner. Her words came from the bottom of her heart.
